I am curious about the anti aging facial but as we all know there are many anti aging products/services out there that do nothing but increase revenue for the provider. What can you truly expect when walking away from the anti aging facial?

This is a comment (or story) more than a question.

I just finished up a long lunch break "Mom massage" with Julie and I had to share my experience!

First of all, I found ‘Mom Spa’ by fluke. It was a Friday morning a few weeks back and I was in desperate need of a pedicure because of a weekend outdoors event that snuck up on me. I called my normal salon/spa, which I will not name, but is VERY popular with a few locations in the Chas area. After no success in squeezing into their schedule, I was left alone to Google my way through finding another spa.

My first criteria was it had to be a place where I could get a real pedi, not a burn and turn kind of place. Second criteria, it had to be close to my office because God forbid my important work life continues without my finger on the button (or the blackberry). Third, if I was going to pay for something out of my comfort box, I was damn sure I was going to feel like I was getting a bang for my buck!

I typed “Spa Mount Pleasant” into Google, clicked search and headed for the map to find the closest nail salon. Up popped a few choices, I called the one that looked most appealing…no answer. Hmmmm. Next on the list was the “Natural Nail Salon”…sounds weak, but I will try it. Nope, no openings today, all 6 girls are booked and they might as well have verbally told me I was nuts because that’s what the tone in the girl’s voice said to me over the phone. Oh well, let’s try the new place… no answer again – what in the world? In this economy every call in a possible dollar or two, how could they not want my money? Ugh…only place left is the “Mom Spa” – I’m a mom of a few gorgeous darlings myself, but who the heck wants to sit in a place you are suppose to relax in and hear banter about other people’s kids? I guess it’s just this once… I’ll try it because I am desperate.

I call and a friendly voice on the other end of the phone not only gives me an appointment she asks me which pedicure I am interested in…mini, hot stone, paraffin, oh my – I get a choice on such last minute? This might be enjoyable.
I show up for my noon appointment and I am immediately escorted into a lounge area with trickling water, refreshing beverages, quiet lighting, and plenty of entertainment magazines…this is very good so far! A woman named Anna greeted me within minutes and spoke with a lovely British accent. Hmmm…the Brits are known for the finer accoutrements in life, this might be very good.

I go back to the private nail room and I am pleasantly surprised to be the only one there. The room was tastefully decorated and quaint with all the comforts a pampered queen could ask for…cold beverage, warm soaking footbath that had special energy lighting in the tub and a divine chair that did not scream “I have been used by a zillion fussy ladies, so don’t even try working my buttons because I gave out a long time ago!”. I nestled in and passed a wonderful hour with Anna in no time. Right before checking out I panicked at the thought of having to exit their delightful haven into the bright cruel asphalt world, so I booked another appointment for the following Friday…my feet went awhile without attention and my husband has a foot thing, so I can justify a quick return. Besides, Anna is my new BFF and there was no way she could go that long before seeing me!

I returned the following Friday and received the same treatment. No catty banter about how cute little Evan looked swinging the cat around by the tail or how hard it is trying to pick out the right custom curtains for the sun porch in the Pawley’s Island beach house - nope, just normal women talking about normal stresses and the daily life in a normal world! I’m hooked!

Two weeks go by and I’m feeling a bit stressed in my shoulders and lower back (not sure if I was really feeling anything, but I haven’t had a massage in a long time and any excuse to qualify a visit to a spa is a worthy one). I call Mom Spa for an appointment and hear that friendly voice again. My appointment time if for the following day.

I rush in, change up, and wait patiently. Julie comes out and introduces herself. She is just as delightful as Anna. Upon entering the room she briefly goes over a mental checklist – any special purpose of the massage, aches, pains, etc; what kind of pressure do I like; is the temp in the room ok; a few inquisitive questions so she knows how to work on me; etc. I feel like she actually cares about customizing the right massage for me…bonus! I assume the face down position and she starts her magic. Intertwined in the working of my muscles I initiated some small chat. Being a former esthetician, I sometimes feel the need to swap interesting stories with fellow professionals. Before I knew it my appointment was up…I knew with my flappy gums and “sore muscles”, 60 minutes was not enough, but it was all I could afford on my lunch break. Oh well, my new BFFs and I will have to wait another day until I can return, which will be soon.

If you want the brief version: YES! This spa is tops in my book and is now my home spa. They come highly recommended by somebody who knows a bit about the business and knows that you shouldn’t feel guilty for taking time to yourself and relaxing. This place knows how to cater to women, not just moms!

For those interested: No, I am not a delusional stalker with a favor for words or a desperate housewife begging for attention. I just have a twisted funny bone and live life out load…it’s too short not too!

I had a amazing experience at your Spa. My wonderful husband surprised me while we were visiting Charleston recently. I wanted to know how I might find a spa or therapist/esthetican that uses the same products and similar philosophy in my own home town of Greenville, SC?
